Microsoft acquires the nifty calendar app Sunrise

Sunrise is a calendar app that made its debut in earnest last summer and has been well received by those in the land of Android and iOS.

Initially, Sunrise covered the basics, and the developers at Sunrise Atelier later added integration with Exchange. So the polished user experience could work with Google Calendar, iCloud, and Exchange servers. For good measure, Sunrise also connects with Twitter, Facebook, and Evernote to round out the experience.

The app has enjoyed millions of downloads from Google Play, Apple’s App and Mac Stores, earning favorable reviews users. Sunrise works on phones, tablets, and browsers for the desktop. Microsoft has been pretty active in recognizing a good thing when it sees it, and just like it brought the email app Acompli into the Redmond family last year, it has reportedly acquired Sunrise where we are sure to see it get integrated into the converged environment that Windows is becoming.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but the talk around the media campfire has prices orbiting the $100 million figure. Microsoft plans to leverage Sunrise into its mobile strategy and what it calls “that future of calendaring.” Source
