2015 Academy Award show is tonight; remember last year's record-setting tweet?
Tonight, the Academy Awards will be broadcast globally. Last year's awards show became famous for the record breaking selfie that host Ellen Degeneres snapped live during the show using the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 that she was given by Samsung. While the selfie seemed to be a spontaneous act by the host, it was actually pre-arranged and was part of the advertising that Samsung spent $20 million for. It could be argued that Samsung got a heck of a bargain as Ellen's selfie quickly became the most re-tweeted message of all time. The buzz from the show lasted for nearly a week.
Sent from her @TheEllenShow Twitter account, the picture quickly amassed over 3 million re-tweets within hours of originally being sent out. That easily surpassed the previous record, which was held by a picture of the President and First Lady in a warm embrace after his re-election.
The 2015 Academy Awards will be broadcast by ABC starting at 7pm EST. The entire show can be viewed over the Watch ABC app available on iOS, Android and Windows Phone. This year, the host will be Neil Patrick Harris. Will he attempt to break Ellen's record, or will we see something different involving the use of social media tonight? Samsung will be one of the sponsors once again, which means that we can't rule anything out. Source
